3 “must-have” elements of a winning tech stack in 2023
Employees of all ages are re-evaluating work and what truly matters to them when it comes to feeling valued and included at work. That’s why many businesses are investing in employee experience software to help employees feel connected (with each other and with company announcements) and engaged with their work.
But with so many options on the market, it can be hard to determine where to spend your money.
If you want a modern intranet experience, here are the 3 most important elements you need to build an employee experience tech stack for 2023.
1. Accessibility
With so many employees working remote, hybrid, or even on the frontline, the most important modern intranet feature is accessibility. We address this in a few ways. First, your intranet should be accessible without being on VPN or in the office.
This may seem like a no-brainer, but the first intranets ever released were set up in a way that required employees to access the site from the company internet or when logged in via VPN. That was fine when all employees were in the office during working hours, but today’s modern workforce is dispersed. Lots of employees are fully remote, working from home, and others are frontline workers who never sit at a desk. Your intranet should be accessible from anywhere, and on any device type, in order to support the modern workforce.
Second, your intranet should be easy to access, via your existing account management system. Your intranet should integrate with the existing logins (be it Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, SSO accounts, etc.) so your employees can seamlessly access the intranet without having to remember another password.

2. Artificial intelligence for self-service
Artificial intelligence is a trendy, and even debatable topic. But what if it could be used in a productive way that makes your job easier and serves your employees?
LumApps has integrated an AI digital assistant into the employee experience intranet platform that allows individuals to self-serve HR and IT requests. Employees can ask short questions and the digital assistant will search the company’s entire database to return an answer or resource.
For example, an employee can ask the digital assistant how to reset their password or where to find the vacation schedule. The digital assistant uses natural language processing to allow employees to search conversationally in all available company data sources. It can even sync with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, ServiceNow, Zendesk, or Confluence to deliver the best response possible.
Not only can this save time by offloading a manual task from the IT or HR manager, but it gives employees the ability to quickly find an answer rather than interrupting someone else’s day or, worse, waiting hours or days for a response back.
3. Automation
Automation refers to the use of technology to minimize human interaction. Automation can be especially helpful for processes that are semi-repeatable. For instance, onboarding. Instead of re-creating the onboarding plan each time you have a new hire, you can create an automation (that we call LumApps Journeys) via the LumApps platform to make a streamlined onboarding process that can be automatically deployed for each new employee. Or you can customize the process even further by creating an onboarding automation that is tailored for each team.
LumApps Campaigns is another type of automation that you can use to increase visibility of important announcements. You can use campaigns to send push notifications to employees, on their preferred method of communication, using tags from the employee’s profile to target them appropriately.
One LumApps customer, Ascension Health, used campaigns to send critical information during the COVID-19 pandemic. Campaigns allowed all employees to receive up-to-date information, immediately, due to the robust delivery options within LumApps platform.
